A horrific domestic violence incident has left a community in shock as a man approximately 40 years of age set his own home ablaze with his family inside in Asa Umudim community, Osisioma Local Government Area of Abia State.
The tragic incident, which occurred recently, resulted in the death of one of the man's daughters, while his wife and two other children are currently fighting for their lives in hospital with severe burn injuries.
According to community sources, the suspect, whose identity has not been disclosed by authorities, doused his residence with an inflammable substance before setting it on fire. His alleged motivation was suspicion that his wife was engaging in extramarital affairs.
Reports indicate that the man had repeatedly accused his wife of receiving phone calls from individuals he believed to be her romantic partners. This suspicion apparently escalated to the point where he decided to take this devastating action against his entire family.
Local residents, enraged by the man's actions, reportedly attempted to administer jungle justice before police arrived at the scene and took the suspect into custody. The body of the deceased child has been deposited in a mortuary while medical professionals are working diligently to save the lives of the mother and the other children.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of Abia State Police Command, DSP Maureen Chinaka, confirmed the incident to reporters, stating: "Yes, the police are aware. Investigation is ongoing."
