The Abia State government has officially confirmed security breaches in Umunnochi local government area that resulted in multiple fatalities, following reports of bandit attacks on communities in Isuochi.

Abia State Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu, disclosed this to journalists at the Government House in Umuahia on Monday after the weekly executive council meeting chaired by Governor Alex Otti.

Government Response to Security Threats

"There have been some security breaches in the Umunneochi area of the state, leading to some fatalities," Kanu stated. "The State security agencies have been put on full alert as the state government would not leave any stone unturned in activating the entire security architecture of the state to address the issue of security breaches."

The commissioner emphasized Governor Otti's firm stance that no part of Abia State would be surrendered to criminal elements, signaling a robust response to the emerging security challenges in the region.

Other State Developments

In other announcements, Kanu reassured residents that there is no outbreak of diphtheria, Mpox, cholera, or Lassa fever in the state, addressing potential public health concerns.

The commissioner also revealed significant progress in the state's social welfare initiatives, with 91,227 persons now enrolled in the Abia State Social Health Insurance Scheme.

Additionally, the state government plans to flag off four housing estates at Mgbarakuna, Obehie, Mbaisi, and Valley View, reflecting ongoing infrastructure development efforts despite security challenges.

The Umunnochi area has previously faced security concerns, with this latest incident highlighting the persistent challenges in maintaining peace and order in certain parts of the state.

As the situation develops, residents are advised to remain vigilant and cooperate with security agencies working to restore normalcy to the affected communities.
