Political commentator and former Kano State gubernatorial candidate, Salihu Tanko Yakasai, popularly known as Dawisu, has outlined three critical political options available to Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a Facebook post on Sunday, Yakasai analyzed the potential paths for the former governor and 2023 presidential candidate of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), suggesting that Kwankwaso's political future hangs in the balance.
"Kwankwaso has only three options. One, to go back to the APC, under Ganduje as National Chairman. Two, to join forces with Atiku and other opposition figures. Or three, remain in NNPP and risk becoming politically irrelevant," Yakasai stated.
According to Yakasai, should Kwankwaso choose to return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), he would have to submit to his former political ally and now rival, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, who currently serves as the APC National Chairman.
"If he returns to APC, he'll have to bow to Ganduje, whom he once anointed but now opposes bitterly," Yakasai emphasized in his analysis.
The second option proposed by Yakasai suggests that Kwankwaso could align with former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and other opposition forces. This alliance could potentially provide Kwankwaso with a platform to maintain national relevance, particularly as opposition parties consider a possible merger to challenge the ruling APC in the upcoming 2027 elections.
For the third option, Yakasai warned that remaining in the NNPP, which he mockingly referred to as a "kayan gwari party" (implying a party lacking significant political weight nationally), could lead to Kwankwaso's diminishing relevance in Nigeria's political landscape.
Yakasai's comments come at a time of increasing political realignments and speculations as Nigeria moves closer to the 2027 general elections. Kwankwaso, who finished fourth in the 2023 presidential election under the NNPP banner, remains a significant political figure in Northern Nigeria but faces challenges in building a broader national coalition.
As of the time of this report, Senator Kwankwaso has not responded to Yakasai's remarks or publicly indicated his political plans for the 2027 electoral cycle.
