The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has openly admitted that the All Progressives Congress (APC) is afraid of Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, describing him as one of the best-performing governors in Nigeria.
Speaking during the official inauguration of Enugu Air, the state-owned airline, Keyamo acknowledged that the governor's impressive achievements have made it increasingly difficult for the ruling party to contemplate his political defeat.
"I want to mirror what the president said the other day to commission a project. Dr Peter Mbah, you're in PDP, but we're scared of you," Keyamo stated candidly.
"The way you're going, we don't know what will happen, and we don't know how to drop a scheme to defeat you, but we will be planning," the minister added, suggesting that the APC would need to strategize against Mbah's growing influence.
In a rare display of cross-party appreciation, Keyamo emphasized that political differences should not prevent recognition of good governance. "Beyond party line, we should not be afraid to say it. You have a progressive spirit, you've done well for Enugu State, and you're one of the best performing governors," he remarked.
The minister's comments came during a significant milestone for Enugu State with the launch of its own airline, Enugu Air. However, Keyamo also issued a warning to the state government regarding the airline's management, cautioning against sharp practices and political interference that could hamper its professional operation.
Governor Mbah, who belongs to the opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP), has been implementing various development projects in Enugu State since taking office, with the state-owned airline being one of his administration's notable achievements.
The minister's admission reflects the growing recognition of Mbah's governance style across party lines, potentially positioning him as a formidable political figure in Nigeria's southeastern region.
