Emmanuel Fayose, a governorship aspirant under the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti State, has launched a scathing attack on Governor Biodun Oyebanji's administration, expressing confidence in defeating the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming 2026 gubernatorial election.

During a familiarisation tour of Ado and Irepodun/Ifelodun Local Government Areas on Saturday, Fayose accused Governor Oyebanji of mismanaging state resources and prioritizing political endorsements over effective governance.

"The question Ekiti people should continue to ask is what Governor Oyebanji has been doing with the monthly allocations to the state. This administration has not met the expectations of the people," Fayose stated.

Allegations of Resource Mismanagement

Fayose claimed that despite significantly increased federal allocations to Ekiti State, residents continue to face economic hardship, underdevelopment, and inadequate infrastructure.

"There is widespread hunger and poverty. The allocation from the Federal Government is nearly four times what it used to be, yet there's little to show for it," he emphasized.

The PDP aspirant further criticized the ongoing endorsements for Governor Oyebanji's second term bid, describing them as "empty political displays" designed to manipulate public opinion rather than reflect genuine support.

APC Responds to Allegations

In response, APC Publicity Secretary in Ekiti State, Segun Dipe, dismissed Fayose's remarks, labeling him a political opportunist making unfounded claims for relevance.

"Fayose is merely seeking attention. His allegations are baseless. The people of Ekiti have witnessed the remarkable efforts of Governor Oyebanji and remain steadfast in their support," Dipe said.

The APC spokesperson maintained that Governor Oyebanji's achievements are visible across the state and advised Fayose to engage with communities to understand the administration's impact.

"It is unfortunate if he cannot recognise the ongoing progress. The people have already made up their minds, and Governor Oyebanji's performance speaks for itself," Dipe added.

As the 2026 gubernatorial election approaches, political tensions continue to rise in Ekiti State, with both parties positioning themselves for what promises to be a highly contested race.
