A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Dele Momodu, has claimed that his publication, Ovation magazine, played a significant role in shaping the political rise of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, while also alleging that the minister has an alcohol problem.
Momodu made these remarks during an interview on Channels Television on Monday, responding to Wike's recent comments where the FCT Minister referred to him as a "boy" and described him as a failed politician who contested for the presidency without securing a single vote.
"Wike benefits immensely from my talent and the pedigree of Ovation Media Group. We pushed him up. You know they say sometimes you can take the man out of the bush, but you can't take the bush out of the man," Momodu stated during the interview.
The media mogul further alleged: "He had one major problem, and that problem was too much alcohol."
This exchange marks another chapter in the ongoing political tensions within Nigeria's opposition party, as prominent PDP figures continue to engage in public disagreements amid preparations for future electoral contests.
The feud between Momodu and Wike highlights the fractious nature of relationships within the PDP, particularly following the party's defeat in the 2023 general elections and Wike's subsequent appointment as FCT Minister in President Bola Tinubu's administration.
Wike, who served as Rivers State Governor for eight years before his ministerial appointment, has been a controversial figure in Nigerian politics, known for his outspoken nature and political influence in the South-South region.
Neither Wike nor his office has responded to Momodu's allegations at the time of this report.
