The South-East Senate Caucus has voiced serious concerns regarding what they termed a 'curious and highly suspicious' examination glitch that affected Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) centers across the entire South-East region during recent examinations.

In a statement issued on Saturday in Abuja, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe, chairman of the caucus, warned that they would not tolerate any agenda aimed at deliberately shortchanging students from the region.

"It would be disheartening and we hope not to contemplate such conspiracy theory that there is a narrow agenda being pursued to deliberately shortchange and harm the future of our children," the statement read.

While acknowledging JAMB's efforts to address the situation through rescheduling of examinations, the caucus expressed skepticism about the widespread nature of the technical failures, noting that they occurred throughout the South-East region and some centers in Lagos.

The senators acknowledged the public apology by JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, but cautioned that "such display of penitence in public should not be an effort to mask a future sinister agenda aimed at harming the educational advancement of children of the South-East region."

The caucus emphasized that the technical failures raise significant concerns about the integrity of the examination process. "The so-called glitch, as curious and suspicious as it were, is enough to erode confidence and dangerously lower national pride among the future generation," the statement continued.

Highlighting education as a critical foundation for national development, the South-East senators called on JAMB and other educational authorities to provide firm assurances against future occurrences of such incidents.

"Education remains one of the most important bedrocks of any society's advancement. It is one major indices of development in every facet of life that can never be faulted. Education is a major pivot that triggers national development. Every child is entitled to it, therefore we must not play roulette with it," the statement emphasized.

The caucus concluded by stating they remain vigilant and demanded accountability from JAMB to ensure that similar technical failures do not recur in future examinations.
