The African Democratic Congress (ADC) and its coalition partners held a significant political summit in Umuahia, Abia State on Friday, positioning themselves as a unified front ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Don Norman Obinna, chairman of ADC in Abia State, announced during the meeting that the party has been officially adopted as the platform for the coalition's political resurgence. He emphasized that this strategic move extends beyond mere political realignment.
"ADC is adopted as a coalition party to right the wrongs orchestrated by the APC. The unemployment rate is alarming, the naira is in a free fall, and the civil servants' minimum wage is a national disgrace," Obinna declared during the summit.
Coalition's Mission and Vision
According to the Abia ADC chairman, the coalition's mission aims to bring relief to Nigerians, address hunger, and restore the country to a path of prosperity. He called for the liberation of both Abia State and Nigeria through visionary leadership founded on integrity, equity, and accountability.
"Since 1999, our ideology in Abia has been to bring in men of integrity who can rebuild Nigeria with justice and fairness," Obinna added. "Good governance must be rooted in probity and transparency."
The coalition described their union as a response to what they termed years of governance failure, economic mismanagement, and citizen disenfranchisement under the current APC administration.
Calls for South East Inclusion
Professor Uzoma Emmanuel Afamefuna, a political scholar and reform advocate who delivered the keynote address, emphasized the importance of stakeholder engagement and civic participation in shaping Nigeria's future.
In his address, Professor Afamefuna condemned the marginalization of the South East region and advocated for rotational leadership, equitable representation, and issue-based campaigns in Nigerian politics.
"We must not sell our votes for rice, wrappers, or fake promises. Only through citizen-led accountability can Nigeria chart a new course," he stated.
Rev. Blessed Amalambu, ADC's 2023 House of Assembly candidate in Abia, also spoke at the event, urging coalition brokers to thoroughly screen aspirants and guard against the infiltration of corrupt political elements into their ranks.
The meeting signals growing political realignments as parties begin positioning themselves for the 2027 electoral cycle, with the ADC coalition hoping to present itself as a credible alternative to the ruling party.
