The Management of Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) in Abia State has issued a public warning about fraudsters offering fake admissions to candidates who scored 150 and above in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
According to a statement released on Thursday by the University Registrar, Dr. Nkeiruka Charity Mbanasor, these unauthorized individuals have been publishing advertisements on social media platforms, specifically targeting candidates for admission into the school's College of Management Sciences (COLMAS).
University Disowns Fraudulent Admission Offers
The university administration categorically disowned these publications, emphasizing that neither the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) nor MOUAU's admission board has established any cut-off marks for the 2025 academic session.
"The Management wishes to inform the general public, particularly prospective students, that these advertisements are fraudulent and do not originate from our institution," the statement read in part.
The university urged admission seekers to be vigilant and avoid falling victim to these scammers. Instead, candidates are advised to rely solely on information published on the university's official website for authentic admission-related announcements.
COLMAS Programs Now Fully Accredited
Despite the warning about fraudulent admission offers, the university confirmed some positive news. The undergraduate programs in the College of Management Sciences, including Accounting, Banking and Finance, Economics, Marketing, and Business Administration, have received full accreditation from the National Universities Commission (NUC).
Additionally, these programs have been officially listed by JAMB, making them legitimate options for candidates seeking admission through the proper channels.
This development comes as many universities across Nigeria are preparing for the 2025/2026 admission process following the conclusion of the UTME examinations and the release of results, including those from the recently conducted resit examinations.
Prospective students are advised to remain patient and wait for official announcements regarding cut-off marks and admission procedures from both JAMB and their universities of choice.
