The Nigeria Police Force has successfully arrested two suspected kidnappers and rescued seven kidnap victims in separate operations across the country, according to a statement released by Force Headquarters in Abuja.
ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, Force Public Relations Officer, confirmed that the arrests were made possible through credible intelligence and coordinated operations by police operatives.
The suspects, identified as Lookman Tanko and Peter Apai, were apprehended in separate operations in Taraba State. During the arrests, security forces recovered multiple firearms and ammunition from the suspects.
"Lookman Tanko was found with an AK-47 rifle, a pump-action rifle, and a long gun, while Peter Apai was in possession of an AK-47 rifle, a pump-action shotgun, and an AK-47 magazine," Adejobi stated.
According to the statement, both suspects are currently in police custody undergoing investigation and will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
In a related development, police operatives successfully rescued seven abducted persons in Niger State. The victims had been kidnapped from Tungan-Boka and Masaha villages in Mashegu local government area.
Adejobi revealed that the kidnappers engaged in a gun duel with police operatives but were overpowered, leading to the rescue of all victims without injuries.
The Force PRO further disclosed that in Plateau State, police raided a criminal hideout along Bauchi road in Jos North local government area and recovered 500 rounds of 7.65mm ammunition linked to a culpable homicide case.
These operations highlight the Nigeria Police Force's ongoing efforts to combat kidnapping and violent crimes across the country, particularly in northern states where such incidents have been prevalent.
