Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN) in Kano has ordered female students to immediately vacate two privately-run hostels following serious security threats and alleged moral misconduct.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by the Vice President Campus Life, Dr. Hamza Garba, the university has withdrawn its approval for Al-Ansar Indabo Female Students Hostels due to multiple violations of the institution's standards.

"I am directed by the Management to write, inform and bring to the attention of our esteemed parents/students that the university has withdrawn its approval for Al-Ansar Indabo Female Students Hostels," the statement read.

The university cited several concerning issues that prompted the decision, including "immoral activities, insufficient water and power supply, student violence, unauthorized late-night movements, and the presence of unknown tenants sharing facilities."

Dr. Garba emphasized that these developments pose a serious threat to the wellbeing of students. The affected students have been instructed to vacate the premises immediately after completing their fall semester examinations.

The university administration has advised parents and students to seek accommodation only through officially approved hostels listed by the Office of the Vice President Campus Life. The management warned that it will not be held responsible for any incidents resulting from non-compliance with this directive.

Furthermore, the university disclosed that it is collaborating with relevant security agencies to ensure full compliance with the closure order, underscoring its zero-tolerance stance on misconduct within its community.

This development highlights growing concerns about off-campus student accommodation standards and safety measures in Nigerian universities, particularly regarding private hostels that operate with university approval.
