The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has published the personal particulars of candidates from 16 political parties who will be contesting in the upcoming Anambra State Governorship Election.

According to a statement signed by Sam Olumekun, National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, the 16 political parties successfully uploaded their candidates' nomination forms to INEC's dedicated portal before the deadline of 6:00 pm on Monday, May 12, 2025.

In compliance with Section 29(3) of the Electoral Act 2022, INEC has displayed copies of Form EC9 along with all accompanying academic credentials and other documents submitted by the candidates and their running mates. These documents are now available for public scrutiny at the INEC State Headquarters and across all 21 Local Government offices in Anambra State.

"We appeal to Nigerians to scrutinise the documents," the Commission stated. "Any aspirant who participated in his/her party primaries with reasonable grounds to believe that the information provided by a candidate is false can challenge the nomination in a Federal High Court as provided in Section 29(5) of the Electoral Act 2022."

The electoral body further announced that the final list of candidates will be published on June 9, 2025, which is at least 150 days before the election, in accordance with Section 32(1) of the Electoral Act 2022.

The publication follows the conclusion of party primaries, which is a critical step in the electoral process as outlined in INEC's Timetable and Schedule of Activities for the election.

The Anambra State Governorship Election is scheduled to take place on Saturday, November 8, 2025. This election will determine who succeeds the current governor when his tenure expires.

Political observers note that this publication marks a significant milestone in the electoral calendar for Anambra State, as it officially presents the candidates who will be vying for the governorship position later this year.
