The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has declared that the proposed political party, All Democratic Alliance (ADA), cannot be registered at present as it has failed to meet the necessary requirements.
Mr. Sam Olumekun, INEC's National Commissioner and Chairman of Information and Voter Education Committee, made this disclosure while addressing journalists in Abuja on Tuesday.
Incomplete Documentation Halts Registration Process
According to Olumekun, the Commission has received numerous letters of intent from various political groups, but none has progressed to the formal application stage due to failure to meet preliminary criteria.
"The truth is that we have so many letters of intent presently and none of them is an application yet. They must first meet the criteria before submitting a letter of intent," Olumekun explained.
Sources revealed that ADA proponents made a critical error by omitting the word 'electoral' from their letter addressed to the INEC chairman, contributing to their registration setback.
ADA's Political Significance
The All Democratic Alliance has gained significant attention in Nigeria's political landscape as a potential opposition coalition ahead of the 2027 general elections. The group has reportedly begun nationwide mobilization efforts despite the registration hurdles.
Political observers note that the ADA's formation represents a strategic realignment of opposition figures, including prominent politicians who are positioning themselves as alternatives to the current administration.
Meanwhile, the Social Democratic Party (SDP) has reportedly suspended its National Chairman Gabam and other officials, indicating potential internal restructuring among opposition parties as 2027 approaches.
This development comes as political realignments continue to shape Nigeria's pre-election landscape, with various coalitions and alliances forming in preparation for the next electoral cycle.
