The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has rejected the Peoples Democratic Party's (PDP) notice for its upcoming 100th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, citing the party's failure to follow proper procedural requirements.

In an official letter dated June 13, 2025, addressed to the PDP National Chairman, INEC explained that the notification lacked the necessary endorsement required by electoral regulations.

Regulatory Non-Compliance

The letter, signed by INEC's Acting Secretary, Hajiya Hau'ru Aminu, specifically referenced Part 2(12)3 of the 2022 Regulations and Guidelines for Political Parties, which mandates that "the National Chairman and National Secretary of the Party shall jointly sign the notice of convention, congress, conference or meeting and submit same to the Commission."

"The Commission draws your attention that the notice is not in compliance... Be guided," the letter partly reads.

According to reports, the PDP had informed INEC on May 30, 2025, of its intention to conduct the NEC meeting at its National Secretariat in Abuja. While the notice was submitted within the required 21-day timeframe stipulated by law, it was only signed by the Acting National Chairman, Umar Damagum, without the co-signature of the National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu.

This procedural oversight has resulted in INEC's rejection of the meeting notice, potentially delaying the party's planned NEC gathering.

The PDP has not yet issued an official response to INEC's rejection of their meeting notice.
