Demola Olarenwaju, the Special Assistant on Digital Media Strategy to former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has refuted widespread media reports claiming that the All Democratic Alliance (ADA) has been adopted as the opposition coalition's platform for the 2027 elections.

In a statement posted on his X handle on Saturday, Olarenwaju expressed surprise at the premature reports circulating in the media regarding the coalition's choice of platform.

"Nigerian newspapers often contribute to our challenges. A group is in the process of pursuing party registration, just like any other Nigerian, but they need to coordinate this with the coalition," he stated.

Olarenwaju emphasized that no final decision has been made regarding the adoption of ADA as the coalition's platform. "ADA has not been adopted by the coalition, and when the time is right, the public will be informed about the appropriate choices and decisions. Just be patient with that," he wrote.

Background on ADA Registration

The clarification comes after the Nigeria National Coalition Group (NCG) formally submitted an application to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) seeking the registration of a new political party – All Democratic Alliance (ADA).

This move had sparked widespread speculation that prominent political figures including Atiku Abubakar, Nasir El-Rufa'i, Peter Obi, and Rotimi Amaechi would adopt ADA as their unified platform for the 2027 general elections.

Olarenwaju's statement appears to be an effort to temper expectations and clarify that while discussions may be ongoing, no formal decision has been reached by the coalition regarding their platform for the upcoming electoral cycle.

Political analysts have noted that the formation of a strong opposition coalition will be crucial for challenging the ruling party in the 2027 elections, but the process of building such an alliance requires careful negotiation and consensus-building among various political stakeholders.

BenriNews will continue to monitor developments regarding the opposition coalition's preparations for the 2027 elections.
