Tragedy struck the Ogun State media community on Monday as Mrs. Bukola Agbakaizu, a veteran journalist with Ogun State Television (OGTV), collapsed and died while preparing for her afternoon shift.

According to a statement released by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, Mrs. Agbakaizu was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, after she collapsed at the OGTV premises but was pronounced dead on arrival.

Mr. Bunmi Adigun, Secretary of the NUJ Ogun Council, eulogized the deceased as "a committed and energetic professional whose contributions to the media industry will be deeply missed."

"Bukola Agbakaizu, a dedicated staff member of OGTV, tragically collapsed while getting ready for her afternoon duty. Despite all efforts to save her, she was confirmed dead at the hospital," the statement read.

The late journalist, who was 52 years old at the time of her death, was not only recognized for her journalistic prowess but also for her active involvement in media unionism. She previously served as Vice Chairman of the OGTV Chapel and was an ex-officio member of the current Wale Olanrewaju-led executive.

"Her vibrant personality and unwavering dedication to journalism have left an indelible mark. Her absence creates a void that will be difficult to fill," Adigun added.

The Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Ogun State Chapter, also expressed profound sorrow over Agbakaizu's sudden passing. In a condolence message signed by its chairperson, Mrs. Sekinat Salam, the association praised the deceased for her outstanding professionalism and personal virtues.

"Ogun NAWOJ received the news of her death with great shock. It is a painful loss, especially at a time when her wealth of experience and leadership were most needed," Salam stated.

She further described the late Agbakaizu as "a woman driven by passion, compassion, and a strong sense of duty" whose dedication to the journalism profession would forever be remembered.

Mrs. Agbakaizu is survived by two children, her aged mother, colleagues, and friends. Her untimely demise has plunged the entire media community in Ogun State into mourning, with tributes pouring in for a life characterized by service, excellence, and compassion.
