The Nigeria Police Force has arrested 239 suspects for various crimes including kidnapping, armed robbery, rape, cultism, and culpable homicide in Kogi State, according to Commissioner of Police CP Miller Dantawaye.
During his maiden press briefing at the command headquarters in Lokoja, CP Dantawaye provided a detailed breakdown of arrests made from February 2025 to date, dismissing claims that the police are overwhelmed by security challenges in the state.
"66 suspects were arrested for armed robbery, 75 for kidnapping, 18 for culpable homicide, 21 for unlawful possession of firearms, 4 for rape, 6 for cultism, and 49 were arrested for other offences," the Commissioner stated.
Weapons Recovery
The police operation yielded significant arms recovery, including five AK-47 rifles, two AK-49 rifles, nine magazines, and 344 rounds of 7.62/39mm ammunition. Other items recovered include 62 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, two rounds of 7.62/59mm ammunition, one locally made revolver barrel gun, one black pump action magazine, and various other weapons.
CP Dantawaye attributed these achievements to "proactive strategies rooted in intelligence-led policing and robust interaction with the various stakeholders of our communities, particularly in the area of information sharing."
Call for Community Cooperation
The Commissioner emphasized that security is "all stakeholders' affairs" and solicited greater cooperation from Kogi residents to provide credible and timely information to the police.
He specifically called on traditional rulers, religious leaders, opinion leaders, youth groups, market bodies, farmers, herders, vigilantes, hunters, and transport unions to offer maximum support in the ongoing fight against criminality in the state.
The Commissioner assured the public of the command's renewed commitment to sustaining the momentum in combating criminal activities throughout Kogi State.
