The Nigerian Army has successfully identified new terrorist hideouts at Garin Baaba within Sambisa Forest during a recent military operation, military authorities announced on Wednesday.

According to a statement shared on the Army's official X handle, troops of Operation Hadun KAI conducted aerial reconnaissance on May 13, 2025, which led to the discovery of the enemy positions.

"As part of ongoing efforts to flush out terrorists from the Sambisa Forest, on 13 May 2025, troops of OPERATION HADIN KAI conducted aerial reconnaissance, identifying enemy positions at Garin Baaba," the statement read.

The military operation resulted in the neutralization of several Boko Haram terrorists following an encounter with the insurgents. During the operation, troops recovered various dangerous weapons and explosive materials.

Among the items recovered were bomb containers intended for Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIEDs), Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), and pressure plates. The Army stated that Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams safely detonated the explosive materials on-site.

The Nigerian Army further disclosed that clearance operations in the area are still ongoing as part of broader efforts to eliminate terrorist threats in the region.

This operation represents a significant development in the military's counter-terrorism efforts in northeastern Nigeria, where Boko Haram and its factions have maintained a presence for over a decade.

The Sambisa Forest has long served as a stronghold for terrorist groups operating in the region, with the military conducting regular operations to dislodge the insurgents from their hideouts.
