Sky Bet Championship club Middlesbrough have officially confirmed that Nigerian forward Kelechi Iheanacho has returned to Spanish side Sevilla following the conclusion of his loan spell.
The 28-year-old Nigerian international joined Middlesbrough on a temporary basis in January 2025, seeking regular playing time after falling out of favor at the La Liga outfit.
During his time at the Riverside Stadium, Iheanacho made 15 league appearances for Michael Carrick's side, contributing one goal and two assists. The forward showed remarkable consistency in his availability, missing just one match throughout his loan spell—a 3-1 defeat against Stoke City.
Despite returning to his parent club Sevilla, reports suggest Iheanacho is expected to seek a permanent move away before the commencement of the 2025/26 season, indicating his time with the Spanish club may also be drawing to a close.
Iheanacho, who previously played for Manchester City and Leicester City in the English Premier League, will now evaluate his options as he looks to secure regular first-team football for the upcoming season.
Middlesbrough, who failed to secure promotion to the Premier League this season, will now need to look elsewhere to strengthen their attacking options as they prepare for another Championship campaign.
