Nigerian international Ademola Lookman has expressed satisfaction after helping Atalanta secure UEFA Champions League qualification following their 2-1 victory over AS Roma on Monday night.
Lookman, who opened the scoring for Atalanta in the crucial encounter, believes his team fully deserved their place in Europe's elite competition based on their impressive campaign this season.
"It's a great feeling. We knew the importance of the game today to qualify for the Champions League. We put in a performance tonight that was deserving of that," Lookman told DAZN after the match.
The goal against Roma marked Lookman's 20th of the season for the Bergamo-based club, highlighting his exceptional form throughout the campaign. His contributions have been instrumental in Atalanta's success, with the team currently sitting third in the Serie A standings with two matches remaining.
"I try to be available whenever I can, so that's important, I try to give my best. The team showed we are strong, there are two more games, we want to finish with as many points as possible," the Nigerian forward added.
Under the guidance of manager Gian Piero Gasperini, Atalanta has enjoyed a remarkable season, with their Champions League qualification now confirmed following Monday's victory.
Lookman's impressive goal-scoring record this season has further cemented his status as one of Nigeria's top performers in European football, continuing to fly the country's flag high in Italy's top division.
Atalanta will be looking to finish their campaign strongly in their remaining two fixtures as they aim to secure the highest possible position in the Serie A table.
