Paris Saint-Germain president Nasser al-Khelaifi has taken a thinly veiled swipe at Kylian Mbappe following PSG's UEFA Champions League victory, suggesting that scoring goals in LaLiga is easier than in France's Ligue 1.

The comments come just 12 months after Mbappe left the French champions for Real Madrid, with PSG subsequently going on to lift Europe's most prestigious club trophy without their former talisman.

"It's easier to score goals in La Liga than in Ligue 1," al-Khelaifi told Al-Kass Sport in a recent interview, in what appears to be a direct reference to Mbappe's move to Spain.

The triumph makes PSG only the second Ligue 1 club to win the Champions League, a significant achievement for French football that al-Khelaifi was quick to highlight.

He praised manager Luis Enrique for representing the French top flight with distinction against Premier League opposition who have often dismissed Ligue 1 as a 'farmer's league.'

"We ended up beating Manchester City, Liverpool, Aston Villa and Arsenal in the Champions League this season," al-Khelaifi noted. "No one gave us a chance to reach such a level and even win the title."

Despite the apparent friction, Mbappe's legacy at PSG remains significant. The France captain departed as the club's all-time leading scorer with an impressive 256 goals and 108 assists in 308 appearances since joining in 2018.

In related news, PSG will face Tottenham in the UEFA Super Cup following their Champions League success, while celebrations in Paris following the victory reportedly resulted in two fatalities.
