Cristian Chivu has officially announced his departure from Parma as he prepares to take over as manager at his former club Inter Milan, replacing Simone Inzaghi who was dismissed following a disappointing Champions League final performance.

Chivu, who enjoyed a successful playing career at Inter where he won three Serie A titles and the 2010 Champions League, confirmed his exit from Parma on Monday through an emotional Instagram post.

"I thank the club, staff, players and fans for having believed in me and our project," Chivu wrote. "Together we overcame obstacles and wrote a page (in Parma's history) which will remain in my heart."

Return to San Siro

According to reports, Chivu has agreed to a two-year contract with Inter Milan worth approximately 2.5 million euros per season. His appointment comes after Inter parted ways with Inzaghi following a devastating 5-0 loss to Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Champions League final.

The Romanian coach's return to the club where he made his mark as a player represents a significant shift in Inter's management strategy following their European disappointment.

Inzaghi's New Chapter

Meanwhile, former Inter manager Simone Inzaghi has quickly found a new role, joining Saudi Arabian club Al-Hilal. The 49-year-old is set to lead his new team at the FIFA Club World Cup, which begins next weekend.

Inzaghi's departure from Inter came after failing to secure European glory, with the heavy defeat to PSG proving to be the final straw for the club's leadership.

For Chivu, the challenge will be to build on Inter's domestic success while improving their performance in European competitions, where expectations remain high following their Champions League final appearance.

The appointment marks a significant milestone in Chivu's coaching career, having transitioned from his playing days to management with considerable success at Parma before earning this opportunity at one of Italy's most prestigious clubs.
