A potential disaster was averted in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, when a tanker carrying 45,000 litres of kerosene lost control and overturned on Friday at the Taki Roundabout area.
The incident, which could have resulted in a major fire outbreak, was promptly responded to by the Oyo State Fire Service, whose swift intervention prevented any casualties or property damage.
Hon. Maroof Akinwande, Chairman of the Oyo State Fire Service, confirmed the incident and detailed the emergency response. "On getting to the scene of the incident, we met a trailer tanker with registration number KMC 127 ZQ Kano with the 45,000 capacity litres of kerosene, lost control and fell on an open road," he stated.
The fire service team immediately implemented safety measures to prevent ignition of the highly flammable substance. "We promptly swung into action by carpeting the areas with chemical foam compound and saved properties worth millions of naira," Akinwande explained.
He further confirmed that no casualties were recorded during the incident, and their timely intervention successfully prevented a fire outbreak that could have had devastating consequences for the community.
This incident highlights the importance of emergency preparedness and the critical role of fire service agencies in preventing potential disasters. Local authorities have not yet provided information about the cause of the tanker losing control or measures being taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.
