The Katsina State Government has disbursed over N274 million in compensation to landowners in Gidan Na-Banje, Kafur Local Government Area, for the establishment of a Federal College of Agriculture.
Dr. Faisal Umar Kaita, the state's Commissioner for Lands and Physical Planning, made this announcement during a recent cheque presentation ceremony. According to the commissioner, 241 landowners received a total sum of N274,353,217.39 as compensation for the 100 hectares of land acquired for the project.
Dr. Kaita emphasized that the compensation aligns with Governor Dikko Umaru Radda's policy of ensuring all affected persons are fully compensated before commencing any government project.
The commissioner commended Alhaji Ibrahim Masari, a native of the area and Political Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for his instrumental role in facilitating the siting of the college in Gidan Na-Banje. He noted that Masari lobbied the Federal Government as part of his commitment to developing his community and state.
"When completed, this college will serve as a centre of excellence in agricultural innovation, training, and research, aligning perfectly with Governor Radda's agricultural transformation agenda," Dr. Kaita stated.
The establishment of the Federal College of Agriculture is expected to boost agricultural education and research in the region, contributing significantly to the state's agricultural development goals and providing educational opportunities for local youth.
