Former Attorney-General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami (SAN), is reportedly facing significant pressure to abandon the All Progressives Congress (APC) and join the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Kebbi State.

According to reliable sources, a delegation of PDP stakeholders visited Malami at his residence on Tuesday for a closed-door meeting that lasted several hours. The meeting was described as "strategic" by an attendee who spoke on condition of anonymity.

The intensified courtship of Malami comes in the wake of a significant political realignment in Kebbi State, marked by the defection of three prominent PDP senators to the APC. Senators Muhammad Adamu Aliero (Kebbi Central), Yahaya Abdullahi (Kebbi North), and Garba Musa Maidoki (Kebbi South) formally announced their switch to the ruling party at the National Assembly in Abuja on Tuesday.

These defections have reportedly created tensions within the APC, particularly in Governor Nasir Idris's camp, who is said to be concerned about Malami's increasing political activities across the state.

A PDP insider revealed to reporters that the party is considering offering Malami a governorship ticket. "We are reaching out to capable leaders who can help rebuild the state. Malami is someone we believe can change the game if he comes on board," the source stated.

This is not the first time Malami has been approached by opposition parties. Recent reports suggest that the Social Democratic Party (SDP) had also made overtures to the former AGF, offering him a direct ticket as part of its strategy for the 2027 elections.

While Malami has maintained silence regarding these offers and has not declared any political ambition, sources close to him indicate that he is keeping his options open while monitoring the political landscape in Kebbi State and within the APC.

The former Justice Minister's recent meetings with various political actors, youth groups, and stakeholders across Kebbi State have fueled speculation about his political future and potential gubernatorial ambitions.
