The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State has firmly denied reports that its members are defecting to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), which recently formed a coalition targeting the 2027 general elections.

In a statement released on Thursday in Osogbo, the party's Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, urged members and the public to disregard rumors of defections, describing them as deliberate misinformation.

"It is only the wishful thinking of the peddlers of the defection rumour which amounted to the willful insulting of the sensibility of our esteemed and dedicated members and supporters," Olabisi stated.

The APC spokesperson emphasized that the party remains "solid, impenetrable and intact" in Osun State, claiming that it has actually been "harvesting members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) almost on daily basis."

Clarification on Former Members

Olabisi clarified that individuals who have joined the ADC were previously suspended or expelled from the APC for anti-party activities approximately two years ago, and do not represent current party members.

"The fact of the development is that those who have been identifying with the ADC were either the expended or expelled former members of the party who had since been shown the way out of our party in the state," he explained.

The statement specifically addressed former Osun Governor Rauf Aregbesola, who now serves as the Interim National Secretary of the ADC, noting that he "had been expelled from the APC over one year ago and he remains expelled to date."

About the ADC Coalition

The newly formed ADC coalition includes several political heavyweights such as former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Senate President David Mark (who serves as Interim Chairman), former governors Nasir El-Rufai and Rotimi Amaechi, as well as Peter Obi and others.

The coalition was established with the apparent aim of challenging President Bola Tinubu and the ruling APC in the upcoming 2027 general elections.

Meanwhile, the Osun PDP has also distanced itself from the coalition, with state chairman Sunday Bisi affirming on Tuesday that Governor Ademola Adeleke remains committed to the PDP and is not involved in any coalition led by Atiku Abubakar.

The APC in Osun maintains that its members see "no plausible or justifiable reason to dump a thriving party for an assemblage of visibly frustrated and spent political figures."
