Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has boldly predicted that the Red Devils will emerge victorious in next week's Europa League final against Tottenham Hotspur, despite acknowledging he has "no logical reason" for his forecast.
Both Premier League clubs have endured disappointing domestic campaigns, currently sitting in 16th and 17th positions respectively. However, the Europa League final in Bilbao offers both teams a chance at redemption, with the winner securing qualification for next season's Champions League.
Speaking on The Overlap, Scholes admitted that Tottenham should be considered favorites based on recent form. "Realistically they (Tottenham) should win it. They have beaten us in the last three games," Scholes stated.
The Manchester United legend further explained his counterintuitive prediction: "I think they will probably be the best team on the night, play really well but we will win. We seem to find 10 or 15 minute spells where we win games. I think that's what will happen."
Tottenham has indeed dominated the head-to-head encounters this season, winning all three previous meetings with Manchester United. Despite this record, Scholes believes his former club will find a way to triumph when it matters most.
The high-stakes final represents a crucial opportunity for both struggling clubs to salvage their seasons. A victory would not only secure silverware but also guarantee Champions League football next season, providing a significant boost to either club's fortunes after disappointing Premier League campaigns.
The Europa League final between Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur is scheduled to take place in Bilbao next week, with both English clubs looking to end their season on a high note.
