The Abia State Government has encouraged Muslim pilgrims from the state to pray for peace in Nigeria and uphold the state's image during their 2025 Hajj pilgrimage to Saudi Arabia.

Professor Kenneth Kalu, Secretary to the Abia State Government, delivered this message during a formal send-off ceremony held in Umuahia for the pilgrims. Representing the state government, he specifically urged the pilgrims not to abscond while in the Holy Land.

"I urge you to remember Abia and Nigeria in your prayers during this sacred journey. Do not lose focus on the purpose of Hajj. Represent our State with dignity and do not abscond," Professor Kalu stated.

The SSG emphasized the importance of the pilgrims serving as worthy ambassadors of Abia State while fulfilling their religious obligations. He also expressed gratitude to Governor Alex Otti for supporting the pilgrimage, noting that the administration remains committed to religious inclusiveness and the spiritual well-being of all citizens regardless of faith.

Sheikh Ali Ukiwo, Chairman of the Abia State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Board, acknowledged Governor Otti's goodwill toward the Muslim community and assured that the pilgrims would not betray the trust placed in them.

"The Governor has shown great support to the Muslim community. We are committed to upholding that trust and will represent Abia with honour," Sheikh Ukiwo said.

Sarki Yaro Danladi, leader of the Northern Community in Abia State and head of the 2025 Hajj contingent, expressed joy over the opportunity and pledged continued prayers for the prosperity of both the state and the nation.

The government's emphasis on not absconding suggests concerns about pilgrims potentially using the religious journey as an opportunity to remain abroad, a challenge that has affected previous Hajj operations from various Nigerian states.
