The Speaker of the Benue State House of Assembly, Aondona Dajoh, has officially resigned from his position in what appears to be a move to ease political tensions in the state.

In a handwritten letter dated August 24, 2025, which he shared on his Facebook page with the caption "Let there be peace," Dajoh formally announced his decision to step down from the speakership role.

The former speaker stated that his resignation was made "in good faith and in the best interest of the state," suggesting underlying political dynamics that may have influenced his decision.

In his resignation letter, Dajoh expressed gratitude to his colleagues for the opportunity to serve as "the first among equals" in the legislative chamber. He also affirmed his commitment to continue his legislative duties and representation of his Gboko West State Constituency despite stepping down from leadership.

The resignation comes amid reports of political tension in the Benue State House of Assembly. Just prior to this development, the Assembly had suspended four lawmakers over an alleged plot to impeach the speaker, and Governor Alia had publicly denied involvement in any attempt to remove Dajoh from office.

Political observers note that Dajoh's resignation with the specific caption "Let there be peace" suggests his decision may be aimed at defusing growing tensions within the state's political landscape.

The Benue State House of Assembly is yet to announce who will succeed Dajoh as the new Speaker, and it remains to be seen how this leadership change will affect the legislative agenda and political dynamics in the state.
