Nigerian music star Tiwa Savage has opened up about the traumatic period when her intimate video was leaked online, revealing that the incident occurred while she was still grieving the loss of her father.
In a recent interview with Zeze Mills, the award-winning singer described the overlapping tragedies as the lowest point in her life, stating, "It was a space of like two months where my dad died and my sex tape was released."
Savage explained that she managed to cope with the difficult situation by trying not to dwell on it. "I was able to survive the trauma because I tried not to think about it," she shared during the candid conversation.
The incident, which occurred in October 2021, made headlines across Nigeria and beyond. At the time, Savage had addressed the situation in an interview with Power 105.1's Angie Martinez, revealing that the video was leaked by someone attempting to blackmail her for money.
"The person tried extorting money from me, but I was not going to allow anyone to blackmail me," Savage had stated, choosing to speak openly about the situation rather than give in to the demands.
The 'Somebody's Son' singer has since moved forward with her career, continuing to release hit songs and maintaining her position as one of Africa's most influential female artists. Her resilience through personal challenges has earned her additional respect from fans and industry colleagues alike.
This revelation comes as part of Savage's ongoing journey of sharing more personal aspects of her life with fans, including her recent discussions about freezing her eggs and her perspectives on relationships.
