The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Yobe State University chapter, has confirmed that its industrial action which began on July 11 remains in effect despite recent government concessions.

In a statement released on Monday, ASUU Chairman Ahmed Karage clarified that while the state government has implemented the ₦70,000 minimum wage adjustment in July, several critical demands remain unaddressed.

"The strike would only end when the union signs a proper agreement with the state government," Karage stated in the release.

According to the union, outstanding issues include implementation of staff promotions already approved by the university council, payment of promotion arrears spanning from 2018 to 2025, and minimum wage adjustment arrears from 2019 to 2024.

The statement further highlighted unpaid 35-25% salary awards for professors and other academic ranks from 2023 to 2025, alongside arrears of the ₦70,000 minimum wage from January 2024 to June 2025.

The union has appealed for public understanding regarding their position, emphasizing that normal academic activities would resume only after their demands are fully met by the state government.

This development comes amid growing concerns about disruptions to the academic calendar and its impact on students' educational progress at the institution.
