Sir Emeka Offor, a prominent Nigerian oil magnate, has emphasized that all levels of government in Nigeria must prioritize education as the foundation for economic prosperity.
Speaking through his Chief of Staff, retired Assistant Inspector General of Police Chris Ezike, at a book presentation in Abuja on Wednesday, Offor stressed that education remains the springboard to economic prosperity for the nation.
The event featured the presentation of a book titled "Persona Non Grata" authored by renowned Nigerian journalist, Ismail Omipidan, which chronicles his journey through journalism and politics.
Ezike, representing Sir Emeka Offor at the event, highlighted the transformative power of books in society, stating: "One book can train a generation because books represent the bank of knowledge."
In a significant move to support education in Nigeria, Offor announced plans to distribute copies of Omipidan's book across Nigerian universities and colleges of education as part of his foundation's commitment to knowledge sharing and educational development.
"Our founder believes in the power of books, and this is why Persona Non Grata will be part of our national distribution to universities and colleges of education," Ezike added.
Responding to this gesture, author Omipidan described Offor's support as "a powerful endorsement of the effort to tell Nigeria's story of courage, resilience, and consistency through the lens of a journalist."
This initiative aligns with growing concerns about the state of education in Nigeria, where stakeholders have repeatedly called for increased investment and attention to the sector as a means of addressing the country's socio-economic challenges.
Education experts have noted that Sir Emeka Offor's intervention comes at a critical time when Nigeria's education sector faces numerous challenges, including inadequate funding, infrastructure deficits, and quality concerns.
