A tragic road accident has claimed the life of Amina Yakubu, a 100-level Education Biology student at Yobe State University, throwing the university community into mourning.
The fatal incident occurred around 5:30 pm on Thursday near the university's gate on Gujba Road, involving a collision between a tricycle (Keke Napep) and a vehicle. Four other occupants of the tricycle, including one of the university's matrons, sustained various degrees of injuries in the crash.
Acting Vice-Chancellor Prof. Bukar Jamri, through the University's Information Officer, Abdulmumin Kolo Gulani, extended heartfelt condolences to the family of the deceased, describing Amina as "a promising young lady from Potiskum Local Government Area of Yobe State."
"The University management is working closely with relevant authorities to ensure the injured students receive necessary medical attention. The safety and well-being of our students remain our top priority, and we are deeply shaken by this tragic incident," the statement read.
The Vice-Chancellor further prayed that "the soul of our dear student rest in Jannatul Fiddausi, and may her family find solace during this difficult time."
According to university sources, Amina has been buried according to Islamic rites. The accident has raised concerns about road safety around educational institutions in the state, particularly in areas with high student traffic.
This incident comes amid growing concerns about road safety in university communities across Nigeria, where students often navigate busy roads to access campus facilities.
