Former presidential candidate of the New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP), Rabiu Kwankwaso, has launched a scathing criticism against President Bola Tinubu's administration, accusing it of neglecting northern Nigeria while concentrating national resources on developing the southern region.
Speaking at the Kano State Stakeholders' Dialogue on the 2025 Constitutional Amendment on Thursday, Kwankwaso, a former Kano State Governor, expressed concern over what he described as a lopsided allocation of federal resources.
"Let me advise the Federal Government on the distribution of federal resources. From the information available to us, it's like most of the national budget is now tilting in one direction in this country," Kwankwaso stated.
The political heavyweight further accused the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) of unfair resource allocation between the northern and southern regions of Nigeria. He emphasized that this imbalance has contributed to the numerous challenges facing the northern region.
"Let me advise those who are struggling by all means to take everything to remember that some of the issues that we have in this part of the country today have to do with the lack of enough resources and mismanagement of the little that comes in. That is why we have insecurity, we have poverty and so on. It is happening here mainly, but like a desert, it would go everywhere," he warned.
According to Kwankwaso, while roads in the northern region remain in deplorable condition, the APC government continues to allocate substantial budgetary provisions for infrastructural development in the southern region, where President Tinubu hails from.
The former governor urged the Tinubu administration to ensure equitable distribution of scarce resources for the development of all parts of the country, emphasizing that balanced development is crucial for national stability and progress.
This criticism comes amid ongoing debates about regional development disparities in Nigeria, with various stakeholders calling for more inclusive governance and equitable resource allocation across the country's diverse regions.
