Thirteen students from Kwara State studying at Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto, have been injured in a serious auto crash on the Yauri-Sokoto expressway in Kebbi State. The accident occurred while the students were returning to Sokoto, according to a statement released by the Government House in Ilorin on Wednesday.

Eight of the affected students sustained various degrees of bone fractures requiring surgical intervention, while five others need medical treatment. All injured students are currently receiving care at the Usman Danfodio University Teaching Hospital in Sokoto.

Tragically, the driver of the vehicle lost his life in the accident.

Governor's Immediate Response

In response to the emergency, Kwara State Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has directed the immediate release of funds to cover the medical expenses of the injured students.

"The governor has immediately released N5,250,000.00 to cover the cost of tests, scans, and other procedures and treatments already itemized by the hospital," according to a statement by the Special Assistant on Students Affairs, Wasiu Onidugbe.

Governor Abdulrazaq also sent a get-well-soon message to the students through his Special Assistant, praying for their safe recovery.
