The Kano State Government has launched a comprehensive investigation into the tragic deaths of two students at the Government Boarding Secondary School (GSS) Bichi, following an alleged attack by fellow students.

The deceased students, identified as Hamza Idris-Tofawa and Umar Yusuf-Dungurawa, reportedly died after being subjected to a form of punishment by senior students who allegedly used local metal objects known as "Gwale-Gwale" during the attack.

State Commissioner for Education, Ali Haruna Makoda, issued directives for an immediate and transparent investigation through the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry, Bashir Baffa. The commissioner emphasized the government's commitment to ensuring justice in the case.

"It is an unfortunate and tragic incident. The Kano State Government is committed to conducting a thorough, fair and transparent investigation to uncover the truth and ensure justice for all involved," Makoda stated.

According to preliminary reports, the deceased students were allegedly punished for reportedly committing an offense, which ultimately led to their deaths. A ministry representative who visited the school cautioned students against taking matters into their own hands.

"You should avoid taking the law into your hands and always report matters of concern to the school authorities for appropriate action," the representative warned the student body.

The commissioner extended condolences on behalf of the state government to the families of the deceased students. "On behalf of the Kano State Government, Ministry of Education, and the good people of Kano State, we extend our condolences to the families of the deceased and pray that Almighty Allah grants them Jannatul Firdaus," he said.

Abbas Abdullahi, Director of the Kano State Senior Secondary School Management Board, described the incident as disturbing and urged students to use their positions responsibly.

Family members of the deceased have also spoken out about the tragedy. Ibrahim Yusuf-Dungurawa, a relative of one of the victims, called on the government to ensure justice is served and the perpetrators are brought to book.

Malam Idris Garba-Tofawa, father of the second student, expressed that while the family has accepted the tragedy as God's will, he pleaded with authorities to implement measures preventing such incidents from occurring in the future.

The Kano State Government has vowed to leave no stone unturned in its efforts to uncover the full circumstances surrounding these tragic deaths and take appropriate action.
