The student community at Adekunle Ajasin University in Akungba-Akoko, Ondo State, has been thrown into a state of panic following the mysterious disappearance of two 200-level students who have not been seen for two weeks.
The missing students have been identified as Andrel Okah from the Department of History and International Studies and John Abba from the Department of Economics. According to reports, all attempts to reach them via their mobile phones have been unsuccessful, raising serious concerns among their peers.
A fellow student who identified himself as Ajibola expressed deep concern over the situation, noting that the prolonged absence is highly unusual for both students, who are known for their regular attendance at classes and academic activities.
"We don't even know if it is a case of kidnapping or something else. The two of them are very close, though. But efforts to reach them through their phones have repeatedly failed. Their sudden disappearance is giving us concerns. The students' community is already worried and also agitated," Ajibola stated.
The student further expressed frustration over what he described as a lack of urgency from relevant authorities, claiming that although the matter had been reported to both the university management and police, no concrete action has yet been taken.
When contacted by BenriNews, the spokesperson for the institution, Mr. Victor Akinpelumi, confirmed that the university has informed the police about the development.
Similarly, the spokesperson for the Ondo State Police Command, Olayinka Ayanlade, verified that the matter had been reported and is currently under investigation.
This incident comes amid growing concerns about safety in Nigerian tertiary institutions, with students and parents increasingly worried about security on and around campuses.
