The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results of the 2025 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE). The announcement came on Wednesday following the successful conclusion of the 2025 BECE Award Committee Meeting held at the Council's Headquarters in Minna.
According to a statement by Azeez Sani, Acting Director of Information and Public Relations at NECO, a total of 179,201 candidates registered for the examination across 12 subjects. The examination, which commenced on May 12, 2025, was successfully concluded on May 23, 2025.
While the statement did not disclose specific performance metrics of the candidates, it highlighted that Dr. Folake Olatunji David, Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education and chairperson of the Award Committee, expressed satisfaction with the processes that led to the successful release of the results.
The Award Committee meeting was attended by secondary school principals from across the country alongside NECO management officials. During the meeting, the committee approved the date and timetable for the 2025 BECE resit examination.
"The resit examination is scheduled to hold on 23rd and 24th July, 2025 for Mathematics and English Studies," the NECO statement confirmed.
This announcement comes as part of NECO's commitment to ensuring that candidates who may need to retake certain subjects have the opportunity to do so promptly. The resit examinations specifically target the core subjects of Mathematics and English Studies, which are fundamental requirements for progression to senior secondary education.
The Basic Education Certificate Examination represents a critical milestone in Nigeria's educational system, marking the completion of junior secondary education and determining eligibility for senior secondary school admission.
