The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has expressed suspicion of foul play regarding the results of Chinedu Okeke, who emerged as the highest scorer in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) with 375 marks.

JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, made this revelation on Tuesday during the Board's 2025 policy meeting held in Abuja, where he disclosed concerning discoveries about the candidate who had applied to study Mechanical Engineering at the University of Lagos.

According to Prof. Oloyede, JAMB's data revealed that Okeke, an indigene of Anambra State, had already been admitted to study Medicine at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) a year ago. When JAMB contacted UNN for clarification, the institution confirmed that Okeke is indeed an active student performing well in his studies.

Dr. Fabian Benjamin, JAMB's Public Communications Advisor, elaborated on the concerns, stating: "The law does not allow a student to matriculate twice, and as an undergraduate, he has an advantage over other candidates in the examinations."

"In his records, he claimed he is from the South-East while the other record indicates he is from Lagos State. We are suspecting that he is a mercenary in the examination," Benjamin added.

Other Top Performers in the 2025 UTME

The Board also announced other top performers in the 2025 UTME. John Ayuba from Gombe State secured the second position with a score of 374, while Olayinka Jimoh from Kwara State came third with 373 marks.

Additional high scorers who achieved 373 marks include Ayibo Roberts from Rivers State, Chibueze Omonugbo from Enugu State, Tunmise Olawepo from Kwara State, and Leslie Afinotan from Delta State.

Chukwuemeka Azoyenime from Delta State, Emmanuel Oyebode from Ogun State, and Cecil Omigie from Edo State also performed exceptionally well, each scoring 372 in the examinations.

This development raises questions about the integrity of the examination process and highlights JAMB's commitment to ensuring fairness in Nigeria's tertiary education admission system.
