The Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, has urged the Enugu State Government and airline management not to allow bureaucracy to destroy the newly launched state airline, Enugu Air.

Keyamo gave this advice on Monday during the inauguration ceremony of Enugu Air, emphasizing the need for effective management and sustainability of the airline.

BenriNews reports that the state government acquired three aircraft, financed by Fidelity Bank PLC and operated by XEJet, a privately-owned Nigerian airline. The airline has already commenced operations, with one aircraft flying passengers from Lagos to Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu.

According to Keyamo, the initiative aligns with one of the five-point agenda established by President Bola Tinubu's administration when they assumed office.

"This is one of our dreams that came true here today in Enugu State, powered by the incredible governor," Keyamo stated. "He was one of the first governors that visited me the moment I was made Minister of Aviation to push for Enugu airline."

The minister further explained that the Tinubu administration's aviation agenda includes ensuring the growth and sustenance of local operators, encouraging the establishment of local airlines, and supporting their development.

"Through his persistence, we approved his partnership with XE Jet which already had Air Operator's Certificate, AOC," Keyamo added, acknowledging Governor Mbah's determination in bringing the project to fruition.

The launch of Enugu Air represents a significant milestone in Nigeria's aviation sector, marking one of the few state-owned airlines in the country. The initiative is expected to boost transportation infrastructure in the southeastern region while creating employment opportunities for locals.
