Rasheedat Ajibade has called on Nigerians to support the Super Falcons as they begin their quest for a record-extending 10th Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title in Morocco.
The tournament kicked off on Saturday in Morocco, with Nigeria's Super Falcons set to play their opening Group B match against Tunisia on Sunday in Casablanca.
Ajibade, 25, emphasized the importance of fan support in achieving the team's objectives. "So, my word to the family back home, and all our friends who support us across the continent, keep praying for us, keep supporting us," she told reporters ahead of their first match.
Strong Competition for the Title
The Super Falcons, under the guidance of coach Justine Madugu, face stiff competition in their bid for continental glory. Host nation Morocco, defending champions South Africa (Banyana Banyana), Zambia's Copper Queens, and Ghana's Black Queens are all considered strong contenders for the prestigious trophy.
Nigeria's opening match against Tunisia kicks off at 5 p.m. Nigerian time on Sunday, with the team looking to make a strong start to their campaign.
Coach Madugu has previously stated that the team is well-prepared for the tournament, with the squad numbers already revealed and key players, including Barcelona star Asisat Oshoala, ready to help Nigeria reclaim African dominance.
Despite Nigeria's status as the most successful team in the competition's history with nine titles, Tunisia has expressed confidence in their ability to cause an upset in the opening match.
