Super Falcons captain Rasheedat Ajibade has declared that the Nigerian women's national team is firmly focused on securing their record 10th Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) title at the upcoming tournament in Morocco.
"We are focused on mission X. For us, effort is everything," Ajibade told CAFonline, emphasizing the team's determination as they prepare for the continental showpiece.
Nigeria's Dominance in Women's African Football
The Super Falcons, under coach Justine Madugu, remain the most successful team in the competition's history with nine WAFCON trophies already in their cabinet. The upcoming tournament in Morocco presents an opportunity for the West African powerhouse to extend their record with a tenth title.
For Ajibade, who will be making her third appearance at the continental championship, the mission is clear – bring home another trophy to Nigeria.
Final Preparations Underway
The Nigerian squad is set to arrive in Casablanca today (Wednesday) for their final preparation phase ahead of the tournament. The team recently held Portugal to a goalless draw in a friendly match in Lisbon on Monday, showing promising signs of their readiness for the competition.
Several key players including Asisat Oshoala, Ashleigh Alozie, and Christy Abiodun have already arrived at the team's Casablanca camp as they gear up for the championship.
The 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations is scheduled to kick off next month in Morocco, with Nigeria entering as favorites based on their historical dominance in the competition.
