Nigerian activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju has pledged to intensify verbal attacks against Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister Nyesom Wike, urging former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi to disengage from the ongoing political feud.

In a Facebook post on Saturday, Adeyanju inserted himself into the escalating war of words between the two prominent Rivers State politicians, declaring that Amaechi is "too big" to be responding to Wike's provocations.

"Coalition people should leave Wike and his dead PDP for me. Amaechi is too big to be responding to Wike," Adeyanju wrote. "Please, leave him for me. They should face other important and relevant issues."

Background of the Political Conflict

The tension between Amaechi and Wike has intensified since Amaechi joined the coalition of opposition leaders aiming to challenge President Bola Tinubu in the 2027 elections. This political alignment appears to have reignited their long-standing rivalry that dates back to their days in Rivers State politics.

BenriNews reports that the conflict has seen both politicians exchange sharp criticisms in recent weeks. Wike reportedly claimed that Amaechi siphoned N4 billion monthly and urged President Tinubu to release the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) forensic audit. In another instance, Wike remarked that unlike Amaechi, he does not come from a poor family.

The FCT Minister has also reportedly set conditions for his resignation amid criticism from Amaechi and other opposition figures.

Wider Political Implications

This confrontation occurs against the backdrop of Nigeria's evolving political landscape ahead of the 2027 elections. The opposition coalition, which includes Amaechi, appears to be consolidating efforts to present a united front against the current administration.

Adeyanju's intervention suggests a strategic move to have Amaechi focus on coalition-building rather than personal feuds with Wike, potentially indicating the opposition's desire to maintain focus on policy issues rather than personal attacks.

The situation continues to develop as political alignments take shape ahead of the next electoral cycle.
