Prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member, Adnan Muktar Adam, has formally resigned from the party, citing its growing alignment with the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and persistent internal crises as reasons for his departure.

In a resignation letter dated July 3, 2025, addressed to his ward at Tudun Wada, Muktar announced his immediate exit from the party, just hours after his ally, former gubernatorial aspirant Ibrahim Ali Amin Little, also left the PDP.

Growing Concerns Over PDP-APC Alignment

Muktar expressed deep disappointment over what he described as the increasing alignment of PDP leadership with the APC at national, zonal, and state levels, calling these developments "deeply disheartening, frustrating, and unfortunate."

"The PDP has failed to offer Nigerians the alternative leadership and vision required at this critical time. Instead, it has chosen to align with elements of the ruling government, thereby betraying the trust of many who once believed in its ideals," he stated in his resignation letter.

The former PDP chieftain emphasized his belief in the importance of a strong opposition to safeguard Nigeria's democracy, suggesting that the party had failed to present itself as a viable alternative to the ruling APC.

Internal Party Crises

Muktar also highlighted ongoing internal crises within the PDP, which he claimed continue to destabilize the party's structures across all levels, further undermining its effectiveness as an opposition force.

Following his resignation, Muktar announced his intention to join a coalition movement committed to rescuing Nigeria from its current socio-economic hardship, though he did not specify which political platform he would be joining.

This resignation comes amid growing concerns about the future of opposition politics in Nigeria, with several high-profile defections reshaping the political landscape ahead of future elections.
