Former Minister of Transportation Rotimi Amaechi has stated that President Bola Tinubu can only be removed from office in the 2027 elections if Nigerians collectively decide to take their fate into their own hands.
Speaking at the formal launch of the 2025 Nigeria Social Cohesion Survey Report by the Africa Polling Institute in Abuja on Thursday, Amaechi emphasized the need for citizen action rather than passive discontent.
"The only way you can stop Tinubu from being the president of Nigeria in 2027 is to run an election of Nigerians versus the bandits," Amaechi declared. "If you think you will just sit down and do that, may God be with you."
The former Rivers State Governor also criticized citizens for merely grumbling in private while taking no concrete action. "They know you are not happy. But you are helpless not because the elites made you helpless, you made yourself helpless," he stated.
Amaechi's Recent Political Moves
Amaechi, who recently resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC), was present at an event where the opposition coalition formally adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Abuja on Wednesday. This move signals his alignment with opposition forces ahead of the next general elections.
His comments come amid growing discontent among some Nigerians regarding the current administration's policies and the country's economic challenges.
Political analysts view Amaechi's statements as part of broader opposition strategies forming ahead of the 2027 presidential election, with various political realignments already taking shape across the country.
