The African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Kebbi State has officially endorsed the emerging opposition coalition, stating that the party's structure remains intact and has grown stronger following the defection of former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.
State Chairperson of the party, Hajiya Hawa'u Muhammad, popularly known as Yar Buga, made this declaration during an interview in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday. She described the adoption of the ADC as the political platform for the coalition as a timely and strategic move.
"Our structure from ward to state level is solid and functional. With prominent figures like Malami joining us, the ADC in Kebbi is more prepared than ever to deliver an alternative to the ruling party," she said.
Malami's Resignation from APC
BenriNews gathered that Malami officially resigned from the All Progressives Congress (APC) on Wednesday, citing the party's failure to address worsening insecurity, economic hardship, and governance issues.
In a detailed statement, the former Attorney General said his decision to join the ADC was driven by the urgent need to align with a coalition focused on national recovery.
Yar Buga added, "We believe this coalition is the pathway to the change Nigerians are yearning for. We are united in purpose and committed to the sacrifices required to restore hope."
Leadership Commitment
The State Chairperson also reiterated her personal commitment to the party's mission, expressing willingness to step down from her position if it would serve the broader interest of the ADC and the coalition.
"If the leadership decides that a change is necessary, I'm ready to comply. It's not about titles, it's about service and results," she stated.
The ADC-led coalition recently announced former Senate President David Mark and ex-Osun State Governor Rauf Aregbesola as interim leaders, as preparations intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections.
This development marks a significant shift in Nigeria's political landscape as opposition parties consolidate their structures to present a united front against the ruling party in the upcoming electoral cycle.
