Former Chairman of the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC), Sam Amadi, has voiced his concerns regarding Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
In a post on his X handle on Monday, Amadi suggested that some individuals merely want to use Obi as a political asset to secure electoral victory rather than supporting his presidential ambitions.
"The problem with Peter Obi is that some people just want him to help them win elections. If he does not say 'I will be vice president to Atiku' then he is selfish. They abuse him," Amadi wrote.
He added: "But real supporters of Obi want him to be President. Which side u de?"
Divided Support Base
BenriNews reports that supporters of the former Anambra State Governor are deeply divided over whether Obi should accept a vice-presidential role alongside Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the upcoming general election.
This division comes after Obi's significant showing as the Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, where he emerged as a strong third force in Nigerian politics.
Amadi's comments highlight the ongoing debate about coalition politics versus independent candidacy as opposition figures strategize for the 2027 presidential race.
Neither Peter Obi nor Atiku Abubakar has made official statements regarding potential alliances for the 2027 election.
