Elon Musk's satellite internet provider Starlink has officially resumed activating new customers across Nigeria, the company announced in an email on Saturday.

According to the announcement, high-demand regions including Lagos, Abuja, and other major cities are being prioritized in what the company described as an "exciting revival" of its services in the country.

Background on Service Interruption

The resumption comes after Starlink temporarily suspended new customer activations between October and November last year due to regulatory approval issues. The service interruption followed controversy when the company, which has over 60,000 subscribers in Nigeria, increased its subscription prices without obtaining approval from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) in October 2024.

This development marks a significant turning point for Nigerians seeking alternative high-speed internet options, especially in areas with limited connectivity infrastructure.

Starlink, operated by SpaceX, has been expanding its satellite internet coverage globally, with Nigeria representing one of its key markets in Africa.

The company has not yet released details about any changes to its pricing structure or whether it has reached a new agreement with Nigerian regulatory authorities.
