Tesla CEO Elon Musk has publicly claimed that President Donald Trump would have lost the 2024 presidential election without his support, escalating tensions between the two prominent figures.
The tech billionaire made this bold assertion on Thursday through a post on his social media platform X, stating: "Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate."
Musk added pointedly, "Such ingratitude," suggesting a rift has developed between himself and the President he helped elect.
From Campaign Trail to Government Role
The 53-year-old entrepreneur invested millions of dollars in Trump's election campaign and appeared alongside the Republican candidate during the final weeks of campaigning. Following Trump's victory, Musk was appointed to lead the United States Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE).
However, the relationship appears to have soured recently. Musk's latest comments come amid a flurry of posts on X in which he called for the Trump-backed "big, beautiful bill" to be killed in Congress, signaling a significant policy disagreement between the two.
Growing Tensions
This public dispute marks a notable shift in what had appeared to be a strong alliance between the world's richest man and the President. The exact nature of their disagreement remains unclear, but Musk's comments suggest he feels his contributions to Trump's electoral success have not been adequately acknowledged.
Political analysts are closely watching this development, as Musk's influence extends beyond his business empire to include significant sway over public opinion through his ownership of X and his role in government.
Neither the White House nor Trump's personal representatives have issued an official response to Musk's claims as of this reporting.
