Former Benue State Governor and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Gabriel Suswam, has issued a stark warning to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), stating that the planned opposition coalition would emerge as the dominant political force in the 2027 general elections.

Speaking during an interview on Channels Television's Politics Today on Wednesday, Suswam urged the APC to be concerned about the growing strength of the coalition, emphasizing that widespread public dissatisfaction with the current administration's economic policies would fuel support for the opposition alliance.

"This is not the first time you are going to have a scenario such as this. Nigerians, based on the economic policies of this administration, are very dissatisfied," Suswam stated. "There is no Nigerian that is not affected by the economic policies of this administration and so I believe that the coalition will be the party to beat, and so if I am in the ruling party I should be worried about it."

Tinubu's Dismissal Reminiscent of PDP's 2015 Mistake

The former governor's comments came in response to President Bola Tinubu's dismissal of the coalition during his one-day visit to Nasarawa State on Wednesday. Tinubu had described those leading the coalition effort as "internally displaced politicians."

Suswam drew parallels to the political landscape before the 2015 elections, recalling how PDP leaders had similarly dismissed the opposition merger that eventually formed the APC and defeated the then-ruling party.

"We were doing the same thing when we were in government, we were dismissing APC then completely. People didn't just give them any chance at all but they won that election," he reminded viewers.

According to Suswam, while the ultimate strength of the coalition will depend on its final composition, the APC should be particularly concerned as many of its current members are reportedly showing interest in joining the opposition alliance.

As reported by BenriNews, this development comes amid growing political realignments ahead of the 2027 elections, with various opposition parties exploring collaborative strategies to challenge the ruling party's dominance.
